Soeur Monique (Sister Monica): the word soeur had 2 meanings in Couperins day. One referred to a nun, and the other meant a girl of questionable morals. This was written for harpsichord, but can be played with good effect on the piano. The ornaments should not be forced.

Le Coucou, from the Third book of Keyboard Pieces. Daquin was a brilliant organist and harpsichord player, and performed for King Louis XIV when he was 6 years old, later becoming organist to Louis XV. He was also a renowned improviser. Le Coucou evokes a very happy cuckoo in late springtime. For solo Piano, Organ or Harpsichord.
