Franz von Vecsey<\/sub><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Franz von Vecsey was a classical Hungarian virtuoso violinist and composer, born at the end of the nineteenth century on 23 March 1893.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Early Life & Career<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

He came from a musical background his uncle being a famous violinist and his father his initial teacher. At the age of eight, Jen\u00f6 Hubay <\/a>took over his studies. Vecsey was recognised as a child prodigy and given the opportunity to play for the German violinist Joseph Joachim<\/a>.<\/em> Joachim was the prot\u00e9g\u00e9 of Felix Mendelssohn<\/a> and Robert Schumann<\/a>, and, in the early 1850s, Franz Liszt<\/a> gave Vecsey some lessons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vecsey became one of the finest virtuoso violinists in Europe and at one point his piano accompanist was B\u00e9la Bart\u00f3k<\/a>. He made his debut in London in 1904 and New York in 1905.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vecsey is famous for championing and popularising Jean Sibelius<\/a>‘ Violin Concerto from the age of thirteen! Sibelius dedicated this piece to Vecsey. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the First World War, he served in the Austro-Hungarian Army. Despite not receiving any physical injuries he was mentally scarred by the whole experience and consequently, rarely toured afterward. However, during the 1920’s he remained popular for his concerts at the Scala Music Hall, Berlin<\/a>. He was quite a prolific composer on either side of the War both in 1911 and 1935.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Later Years<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Sadly at the age of just forty-two when he was about to embark on his ambition of conducting Vecsey died of a pulmonary embolism on 5 April 1935.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
