Not a great deal is known about the life of French composer Felix Le Couppey. He was born in Paris on 14th April 1811 and when he was old enough he went to the Paris Conservatoire<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Career<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

By the age of seventeen he became the assistant teacher of Harmony at the Paris Conservatoire. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Le Couppey went on to win awards at the Paris Conservato<\/a>ire. These included the first prize for pianoforte and harmony in 1825 followed by the first prize again for pianoforte accompaniment in 1828.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Between 1837 and 1843 he was Professor of Solf\u00e8ge at Paris Conservatoire<\/a>. He then succeeded his master to become the teacher of harmony and accompaniment until 1854. He then went on to write many textbooks for the piano with titles including Cours de piano \u00e9l\u00e9mentaire et progressif, \u00c9cole du m\u00e9chanisme du piano and 24 \u00c9tudes primaries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Teaching<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

As a music teacher some of his pupils included \u00c9douard Batiste, the composer \u00c9mile Jonas and pianist Mathilde Bernard-Laviolette, C\u00e9cile Chaminade and Henri Verley.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
