Charles-Valentin Alkan was born to Jewish parents on 13 Nov 1813. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Early Life<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

A composer and virtuoso pianist he had five brothers and one sister, all of whom were musicians. Alkan was a child prodigy and entered the Paris Conservatoire<\/a> at a young age winning many awards. By the age of seventeen, he had earned himself a reputation as a virtuoso pianist. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite making public appearances Alkan had periods of withdrawal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alkan produced many arrangements of his predecessors – Beethoven<\/a>, Mozart<\/a>, JS. Bach<\/a>, Haydn<\/a>, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
